Bollywood star Salman Khan gets five years in jail for hunting rare deer

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, 52, has sentenced to five years in jail for killing rare deer back in 1998.

The Jodhpur court also fined him 10,000 rupees ($154; £109) for the crime. He has since been taken to jail.

Khan killed the 2 blackbucks, a protected species, in the western state of Rajasthan while shooting a film Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Four other actors who starred - Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam with him in the movie and were also charged.

He will have to spend at least a few months in prison while it could take days for his lawyers to appeal the conviction and seek bail.
