Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are both asking to downsize their boxing gloves for their much-hyped fight on 26 August 2017.
Nevada State Athletic Commission rules dictate that 10oz gloves must be worn by both fighters as they are in the 154lbs weight division.
However, Mayweather has made a formal request to use smaller sized gloves which would make McGregor "more comfortable".
Mayweather said: "Let's fight in 8oz gloves. McGregor can fight in any brand he prefers or chooses. I'll be wearing 8oz Grant gloves. Whatever advantage McGregor needs to feel more comfortable in the ring, I'm willing to accommodate. Let's give the boxing and MMA fans what they want to see."
McGregor's team is also in the process of submitting a request as McGregor normally wears 4oz gloves when fighting in the UFC.
Bob Bennett of the NSAC confirming the matter will be discussed by the commission:
"Our regulations require 10oz gloves. But I won't say that there's no negotiations.
This is an anomaly. I haven't experienced this in over three years on the job.
"But the fact that we've never received a request does not negate the fact that [Mayweather and McGregor] have the opportunity [to submit their own request]."
The lighter gloves will result in more damaging blows as they offer less cushioning for competitors' hands.
Its going to be a bloodbath.
