Rapper Nelly arrested under alleged rape charges

The rapper Nelly – real name Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. – has been arrested for rape after the alleged incident happened on his tour bus in Washington, USA.

He was arrested around 4am local time on second degree rape charges after a woman called emergency services reporting a sex assault. He is reportedly still remanded in custody..

Nelly's lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, described the allegation as "completely fabricated".

He added:

"Our initial investigation clearly establishes this allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness"

Nelly is best known for his US number one hit "Hot in here" (and for wearing a fake plaster on his left cheek), but hasn't released any new music for many years.

The 42 year old is currently on a US tour with the Backstreet Boys and Florida Georgia Line, and performed in Auburn on Friday night. Nelly was due to perform his next gig in Ridgefield, Washington on Saturday night.
